Rolex: A Horological Epic

The Origins of Rolex

Founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London, Rolex quickly became synonymous with luxury, precision and innovation. From the outset, the brand has emphasized the quality and precision of its watches, revolutionizing watchmaking with major innovations.

Rolex Innovations

Rolex has been at the forefront of many watchmaking innovations. In 1926, the brand launched the Rolex Oyster, the world's first waterproof wristwatch. This revolutionary case protected the movement from dust and water, ensuring unprecedented reliability.

In 1931, Rolex invented the first automatic movement with perpetual rotor, marking a new era in watchmaking. This innovation enabled watches to be wound automatically by wrist movements, eliminating the need for manual winding.

Rolex and Vintage Watches

Vintage Rolex watches are among the most sought-after by collectors worldwide. Iconic models such as the Submariner, Daytona, Datejust and GMT-Master have left their mark on watchmaking history and continue to captivate vintage watch enthusiasts.

Rolex Submariner

Launched in 1953, the Rolex Submariner has become an iconic diving watch. Designed to withstand the depths of the ocean, the Submariner is appreciated for its robustness, legibility and timeless design.

Rolex Daytona

The Rolex Daytona, introduced in 1963, is a chronograph watch designed for racing drivers. It became famous thanks to Paul Newman, whose personal model sold at auction for over $17 million in 2017.

Anecdotes and milestones

Rolex has always been associated with extraordinary feats. In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay wore Rolex watches on the first successful ascent of Mount Everest. In 1960, the Rolex Deep Sea Special accompanied explorer Jacques Piccard and Lieutenant Don Walsh as they dived to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean.

Rolex Today

Today, Rolex continues to innovate and produce luxury watches that combine tradition, innovation and precision. Today's collections, such as the Oyster Perpetual, the Yacht-Master and the Sky-Dweller, bear witness to Rolex's unwavering commitment to excellence.

With over a century of history, Rolex remains an iconic brand and an undisputed leader in the world of watchmaking. Its watches, whether contemporary or vintage, continue to fascinate and captivate watch lovers the world over.
